Al-Aklouk: The Arab Summit sets a legal definition of the "Nakba"

The delegate of the State of Palestine to the Arab League, Ambassador Muhannad Al-Aklouk, said that the Arab summit, which will be held next Friday in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, will adopt a resolution defining the Nakba legally for the first time, condemning those who deny it, and making May 15 of each year an Arab and international day to remember the Nakba. "This is an important and historic achievement," he added.


Al-Aklouk added, after the conclusion of the meeting of the Arab League Council at the level of permanent delegates preparatory to the meeting of foreign ministers and then the Arab summit in Jeddah, that the representatives of the member states welcomed the establishment of the open-ended Arab ministerial committee headed by the member state that holds the rotating presidency of the summit, and the membership of: Algeria, Egypt, And Jordan, Palestine, Qatar, Lebanon, Morocco and Mauritania, noting that the committee will hold its first meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, at the ministerial level, on the sidelines of the preparatory meetings for the summit.


In an interview with the official news agency Wafa, al-Aklouk called on the Arab brothers, in an intervention in the closed session, to support the Palestinian approaches, whether through the Arab summit or through bilateral relations, namely: the need to provide international protection for the Palestinian people who are subjected to continuous and systematic Israeli aggression, which must be To be secured through the Security Council resolutions and the resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly, in addition to the role of its Secretary-General and the options that he can present to apply international protection immediately.


Al-Aklouk also called for the necessity of holding the Israeli occupation accountable for its crimes through the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice, "since we called on member states to submit written pleadings to the International Court of Justice about the illegality of the occupation, written before the date of 7-25-2023, and that it imposed a racist regime on the people Palestinian, which takes the form of settler colonialism," noting that "this measure is a practical part of the Arab contribution to accountability and ending the occupation."


He called on member states to put the Israeli occupation army on the UN “list of shame” for child killers, and to enable the Human Rights Council and its ongoing commission of inquiry to work within the framework of the investigation of Israeli violations.


He also called for support for President Mahmoud Abbas's vision of convening an international peace conference, from which a political process would emerge within a specific time frame, in accordance with the terms of reference of international law and the resolutions of international legitimacy related to the Palestinian cause.


He said that the upcoming Arab summit will issue an important decision, which is the formation of an advisory legal committee within the framework of the League of Arab States, to provide the necessary legal advice in the efforts of the State of Palestine to hold the Israeli occupation government accountable and prosecuting.


The delegate of Palestine to the Arab League reviewed the violations and war crimes committed by Israel against the Palestinian people, the temporal and spatial division of Al-Aqsa Mosque, the changing of the existing legal and historical status of the mosque, and the barbaric attack on worshipers and seclusion inside Al-Aqsa Mosque, especially what the Gate of Mercy chapel was exposed to, in addition to what Palestinian prisoners are exposed to it inside the prisons of the occupation, and what happened to the martyr prisoner Khader Adnan, who died as a martyr as a result of deliberate medical negligence and failure to provide him with the necessary health care.


He condemned the Israeli aggression against our people in various Palestinian cities, villages and camps, and the latest of which was the aggression against the Gaza Strip, expressing his appreciation to the Arab Republic of Egypt, government and people, for its great role, and to other Arab countries, for stopping the bloodshed of the Palestinian people and for the cease-fire.


The meeting was attended by Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates for Arab Affairs, Ambassador Fayez Abu Al-Rub, and Senior Adviser Rizk Al-Zaanin from the Palestine Delegation at the University.
