Washington calls for the humane treatment of Palestinian prisoners
Deputy Spokesperson for the US State Department, Vedant Patel, stressed the need to respect the human rights of all individuals, including prisoners.
Patel said, in response to a question by Al-Quds.com correspondent, regarding the US administration's position on the martyrdom of the Palestinian prisoner Khader Adnan after he went on hunger strike for eighty-seven days during his detention: "Our point of view is that we have a deep respect for human rights and we believe that human rights should be treated accordingly." All personnel, including prisoners, in a humane manner.”
"What I will also point out," Bastille added, "is that the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (Movement) is a foreign terrorist organization, and as we've seen with the rocket attacks, this group continues to promote violence."
On the administration's position on the administrative detention practiced by Israel against Palestinian citizens and constantly renewed, Patel said, "What I will say in this regard is that I will let the Israeli government speak more specifically about its decisions."
Palestinian prisoner Khader Adnan, who became a symbol of Palestinian resistance to Israeli detention policies, was martyred on Tuesday, after 87 days of hunger strike at the age of 45, according to what the authorities announced.
At the United Nations, Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, said that the Secretary-General is following with concern the situation after the death of Khader Adnan, calling on the Israeli occupation authorities to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances of what happened, again calling on the United Nations to Israel to put an end to the practice of administrative detention, pointing out It calls for either immediate charges against the administrative detainees and trial before a court, or their release without delay.
