European financing of 26 million euros to pay allowances for poor families
The European Union , France and Spain provided 26.3 million euros to pay social allowances through the National Cash Transfer Program for the benefit of 106,596 vulnerable Palestinian families.
“Social protection is a priority and a basic human right that must be preserved and protected by governments around the world,” said EU Deputy Representative Maria Velasco.
She added that the special social protection system, which includes the cash transfer program to support the poorest and most vulnerable, is currently facing unprecedented challenges due to the chronic financial crisis of the Palestinian Authority.
She pointed out that this contribution, co-financed by Spain and France, confirms once again our common European commitment to the Palestinian people, while we continue to call for the regular and continuous disbursement of social allocations through this program.
In turn, the head of the French Cooperation, Guillaume Robert, said: “In these difficult times, France is proud to support the Palestinian government in meeting the needs of its population, through social allowances for the most vulnerable groups. With the help of our contribution, many poor and vulnerable Palestinian families will receive much-needed support from the Ministry Social Development This support is essential to help reduce poverty and alleviate the social and economic crisis in Palestine.”
For his part, Head of Spanish Cooperation Ventura Rodríguez García said, "For many years, Spain has been providing reliable and predictable support to the Palestinian government, in order to provide basic public services to the Palestinian population, and to play its role and contribute to the reduction of multidimensional poverty.
Our support this year is focused on "fulfilling the urgent needs of the most vulnerable families identified by the Ministry of Social Development to receive social assistance."
