It is not among Ben Gvir's priorities.. Record numbers of murders in the occupied territories

The Hebrew newspaper Haaretz reported, on Tuesday, that the Israeli police had deciphered less than 5 percent of the murders that occurred among Palestinians inside Israel since the beginning of 2023, compared to more than 83 percent of murder cases among Jews.

During the first quarter of this year, 40 Palestinians were killed, and two others since the beginning of this month, which is a record at all, while 21 were killed in the same period last year.

Of the 42 murder cases in which investigations were opened this year, the Israeli police were able to solve the mystery of only two cases, one in Shuafat camp, and the other in Jisr al-Zarqa.

According to the Hebrew newspaper, the Israeli police are usually unable to get their hands on the killers, and in most cases they do not even arrest suspects, as confirmed by a senior police official.

Another officer said: "Assigning the police on a large scale to deal with the demonstrations makes it difficult to deal with murder cases. We are only at the beginning of the year and there are dozens of murder cases, and there are dozens like them from last year that have not yet been resolved."

According to the newspaper, the so-called Minister of National Security , Itamar Ben Gvir , avoids holding regular talks, as his predecessor used to do, to fight crimes among the Palestinians of the interior, so that contacts between his office and the Arab local authorities were cut off since he assumed the ministry.

An Israeli official said that this issue is not a priority for Ben Gvir at the present time.
