Kiev ( Ukraine ) - (AFP) - "Intensive" strikes with more than 120 Russian missiles targeted several Ukrainian cities, including the capital, Kiev, on Thursday morning, according to the Ukrainian Armed Forces and Presidency.

"The enemy is attacking Ukraine on several fronts, with cruise missiles launched from planes and ships," the Air Force wrote on social media.

"More than 120 missiles were launched to destroy basic civilian infrastructure and kill civilians in large numbers," Ukrainian presidential advisor Mikhailo Podolyak said on Twitter, without providing a tally of possible victims.

On Thursday, Lviv, the largest city in western Ukraine, was deprived of electricity by 90%, as a result of this new bombing that targeted energy facilities in the dead of winter.

And the mayor of Lviv, Andrei Sadovy, said on "Telegram" that "90 percent of the city is without electricity... Trams and buses no longer run in the city and the water supply may be cut off."

The Kremlin had warned that there would be no truce for the New Year on the ground in Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin justifies the attack on Ukraine, which has been going on for more than 10 months and caused very great losses, by saying that the West was exploiting Ukraine to threaten Russia.
