The Israeli Knesset approves a bill to revoke citizenship from prisoners of the interior and Jerusalem

Translation by "Jerusalem" dot com - The Israeli Knesset approved, on Wednesday afternoon, in its first reading, a bill to revoke citizenship or residency from Palestinian prisoners who live in East Jerusalem and the occupied interior, and who receive salaries from the Palestinian Authority.

According to the website of the Hebrew newspaper, Israel Hayom, the bill links the withdrawal of citizenship or residency with the connection of a prisoner convicted of attacks with receiving salaries from the Palestinian Authority.

The draft law was approved by 71 members, against 9 opposition, as it will be transferred to the Knesset Parliamentary Committee with the aim of making any amendments to it before the final vote on it.

The bill was introduced by the head of the government coalition in the Israeli Knesset , Ofir Katz, of the Likud party, who said after the law was passed, "We have taken an important step today, and I pledged that we will complete the legislation within two weeks and we will do it... The terrorist's place is in Gaza or Ramallah, not here." All the families of those killed are watching us, and it is our responsibility to complete this legislation as quickly as possible."

This step comes after the release of activist Karim Younis after 40 years of detention, amid incitement to demand the withdrawal of his nationality.
