The private sector warns of the repercussions of Israeli policies on the economic situation in Palestine

Ramallah - "Jerusalem" dot com - Business leaders and representatives of the Palestinian private sector warned of the repercussions of the Israeli government's policies on the economic situation in Palestine, especially the financial policies represented in the deduction of clearance revenues and restrictions on human rights and civil society institutions, in addition to the tightening of the economic noose. This came during a meeting organized by the Palestinian-American Chamber of Commerce for representatives of the Palestinian private sector with the US government delegation headed by Hadi Amr, Special Representative of the United States of America for Palestinian Affairs.


Private sector representatives have expressed their concern about the practices of the Israeli government, which are exacerbating frustration at all levels in Palestine.


The representatives of the private sector renewed their demand to launch a political process aimed at restoring political hope. They stress the importance of continued economic support for the Palestinian National Authority, and the need to protect human rights institutions and the private sector, especially financial institutions, from the extremist and irresponsible policies imposed by the Israeli government, which will lead to the collapse of the situation in the Palestinian territories.


They also stressed the importance of stopping unilateral measures that contradict the signed agreements, and that threaten the two-state solution and prevent preserving the status quo in East Jerusalem. This includes stopping provocative practices in the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, all settlement activities, and deductions from taxes that are collected. They emphasized the necessity of reopening the US consulate in East Jerusalem, and reopening the Palestine Liberation Organization office in Washington.


Private sector representatives praised the US government's position and its emphasis on the two-state solution as a just and comprehensive solution. They emphasized the importance of the role of the American position politically and economically, and the need for it to go beyond supporting the vision of the two-state solution, to translate this solution into reality in a practical, bold and direct manner.


The speakers called on the private sector to re-support infrastructure projects, such as supporting the power generation plant in Jenin and water desalination projects in Gaza, and other strategic projects that lead to reducing the deterioration of economic conditions and raising the level of economic security in the interest of the Palestinian citizen.


Amr expressed his understanding of the fears and concerns of the Palestinian private sector regarding the restrictions imposed on the private sector and Palestinian human rights institutions. Stressing the position of the United States of America in support of the two-state solution, and maintaining stability and security for all parties. Amr also promised to convey the message of the Palestinian private sector to Washington, and to give the files discussed utmost importance.


For his part, Mr. Saeed Baransi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Palestinian American Chamber of Commerce, affirmed the Chamber's determination to continue hosting these meetings, as they represent an important platform for delivering the message of the Palestinian private sector and civil society institutions to the American administration, especially in light of these difficult circumstances and political and economic risks. Pointing to the importance of having a frank and sustainable dialogue, which contributes to conveying the message of the Palestinian National Authority, civil society institutions and the private sector, who stand in one trench in the face of these dangers.
