Palestine concludes its participation in a European conference on the environment and sustainable education in Cyprus
Ramallah - "Jerusalem" dot com - The Palestinian delegation concluded its participation in the European Ministerial Conference on Environment and Sustainable Education , which was held in the Cypriot capital, Nicosia, with wide participation, and in the presence of about 1,000 participants, including ministers and representatives of European and Arab countries, European and international organizations, researchers and community organizations. The conference was hosted by the Government of Cyprus with the support of the Secretariat of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), and in cooperation with the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and other partners.
The conference discussed ways to enhance the overlap between the environmental and educational dimensions, and education for active citizenship. In order to enhance the active presence of community members in facing environmental challenges and mechanisms to reduce behaviors harmful to the environment through a targeted educational effort.
The delegation of the Palestinian Ministry of Education , headed by the Assistant Undersecretary for Student Affairs, Sadiq Al-Khadour, the Director of the Teacher Creativity Center, Rifaat Al-Sabah, and the Director of the Educational Development Unit at the A.M. Qattan Foundation, Dr. Nader Wahba, two working papers and specialized interventions that shed light on the reality of the Palestinian experience in the fields of education, sustainable development, sectoral strategic plans, and activities at the level of infrastructure; To support qualitative and participatory education with all civil society organizations to develop environmental self-sustainability.
The delegation also focused on the issue of injustice in the issue of sustainable development, and the practices of the Israeli occupation in standing in the way of sustainable development in all fields.
On the sidelines of the conference, the delegation held a series of meetings with delegations of the participating countries and international institutions active in the fields of education, youth and the environment, where prospects for cooperation with those parties were discussed.
The Ministerial Conference concluded with the adoption of a Ministerial Declaration affirming the commitment of countries to transition to a green economy with sustainable infrastructure at its core. Emphasizing the need for more and stronger Education for Sustainable Development Advancement of Education for Sustainable Development and implementation of multilateral environmental agreements.
