Prisoners' Authority: The prisoner, who has cancer, Abd al-Basit Maatan, needs medical care
Ramallah - "Jerusalem" dot com - The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs confirmed in a report issued Thursday afternoon that the prisoner Abdel Basset Maatan, who has been suffering from colon and gland cancer for several years, is in urgent need of periodic medical care for his condition.
The authority indicated that the occupation army had re-arrested Maatan on July 21, while he was trying to travel to Turkey to complete his treatment there, and an administrative detention order was issued against him for a period of 6 months, noting that he was released during the month of April after spending several months in administrative detention.
She added that the prisoner, Maatan, had been diagnosed with cancer in 2018, and at that time he underwent several complex surgeries during which part of his colon was removed, and he also underwent chemotherapy sessions that affected his condition and led to discs in his back.
The Commission indicated that after the arrest of the prisoner Maatan during the past year, the occupation authorities did not recognize his medical files, which prove that he had cancer, and deliberately ignored his difficult situation and procrastinated in referring him to an oncologist, knowing that his condition requires close follow-up and periodic examinations every 6 months, for fear of The possibility of the disease spreading again inside his body.
The Prisoners Authority held the administration of occupation prisons fully responsible for the life and fate of the prisoner Maatan, calling on the institutions of the international community to intervene immediately and urgently in order to release him and all sick prisoners against whom a systematic medical crime is practiced every day inside prisons, and to put an end to their suffering.
It is worth mentioning that the prisoner, Maatan (49 years), is from the village of Barqa, in the district of Ramallah. He is a retired professor and father of four children, and a former prisoner who spent 9 years in the occupation prisons.
