Launching a conference to endorse the national strategy to end division in accordance with transitional justice standards


Ramallah - "Jerusalem" - The Community Committee for Ending Division , sponsored by the Palestinian Center for the Independence of the Legal Profession and the Judiciary "Musawah", announced today, Wednesday, the date for the launch and convening of its comprehensive national conference under the title "Transitional Justice is the gateway and guarantee for the success of national efforts to achieve reconciliation". And that on the twenty-fifth of the next month.


Committee member Majed Saqr said, in the committee's statement, which he read during a press conference held at the headquarters of the PRCS in Al-Bireh in conjunction with the Gaza Strip, "The conference comes to endorse the national strategy to end the division in implementation of the standards of transitional justice and good governance, by assigning specialized national figures She works in transitional justice standards committees to accomplish the strategy in a way that embodies national sovereignty and defines the most effective way to get rid of division and strengthen unity.


Saqr added, "Achieving this task is of historical importance and necessity, and its completion requires the participation of all the colors of the Palestinian spectrum, which requires stimulating motivation and expanding participation from all components of society in order to meet the noble goals of the conference, as it is a popular demand that requires the unification of all national efforts, in their diversity and plurality, with will and determination to succeed." Commitment to the collective national strategy, putting it into practice, and prohibiting deviation from it.


On the sidelines of the conference, Rasha Khaddour, a member of the committee and the representative of MUSAWA in that committee, said in an interview with Al-Quds.com, "We are preparing and mobilizing to hold and participate in the conference, and we hope that all societal groups will participate in it, and it is supposed to emerge The conference presented a national plan in accordance with the standards of transitional justice.


According to Khaddour, it is expected that four committees will be formed with the task of formulating a national strategy in accordance with the transitional justice mechanism, achieving reconciliation, and ending the division, explaining that the standards of social justice are: accountability, revealing the truth, compensation, and societal reform.


According to the statement read by Saqr, "This initiative has what is supported by the experiences of many countries and peoples, including countries in Africa, Latin America, Europe, and Arab countries as well. Transitional justice standards have been implemented in national agreements to move from a state of division to a state of unity and have achieved positive results, which will be referred to." The speakers at the conference are inspired by what is positive and fruitful in formulating the national strategy.


The Committee stressed the unity of the goal of the Palestinian people represented in achieving their freedom, independence and right to self-determination, and the need to end the division that constitutes a major obstacle to achieving it, and the importance of concerted efforts to achieve just reconciliation as the reliable tool to embody the Palestinian people’s attachment to their homeland, security and future.


The Committee called on all political parties and forces that signed the Algiers Declaration to expedite its implementation without delay, to strengthen and empower the role of civil society institutions and to activate the role of families, their councils, and youth and women’s unions in achieving reconciliation through their active participation in the National Conference and its decisions and outputs. It also called on all the Palestinian people to actively participate. In its national conference in order to make it a success and implement its outputs in order to strengthen national efforts to end division and achieve reconciliation.


The committee affirmed that it had set a goal of communicating with all components of Palestinian society and organizing a national conference that supports the previous societal efforts aimed at ending the division, and approving a national strategy that implements the foundations and principles of transitional justice and good governance for a peaceful transition from a state of division to a state of unity.


During the last period, the committee was able to communicate with civil society institutions, women's institutions, mayors, and political parties, and came out with recommendations issued in the form of statements and calls for actual commitment to the outcomes of the reconciliation meetings, specifically the Algiers Declaration.


The committee affirmed that it will continue its contacts and activities in a manner that achieves communication with all components of society, and that it will meet with representatives of youth, clubs, professional and labor associations, student unions, writers, media professionals, academics, families of prisoners and public figures, to make its conference a success.


The Community Committee to End the Division emerged from the seventh constituent assembly initiated by the MUSAWA Center in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, as a culmination of a series of dialogues it organized in all governorates of the country with the active participation of representatives of various community activities, which started in 2019 and ended on 8/29. /2022 in a joint meeting between the southern and northern governorates, where the Constituent Assembly at that meeting endorsed the initiative of 18 eighteen personalities, thus forming the Community Committee to End the Division, which kept its doors open for those wishing to join it, while the number of members of the Committee in the Gaza Strip reached 11 and in the West Bank, 12 members.
