The King of Jordan grants journalist "Abu Aqleh" the Medal of Independence

Amman - "Jerusalem" dot com - King Abdullah II Bin Al-Hussein of Jordan awarded, on Wednesday, the martyred correspondent of "Al-Jazeera" channel, Shireen Abu Aqleh, a medal in appreciation of her courageous role in performing her duties.


This came during his sponsorship of the national celebration of the Kingdom's 76th independence anniversary, in the courtyard of Al-Hussainiya Palace in the capital, Amman, according to a statement by the Royal Court.


The Court said: "The King bestowed the Order of Independence of the first degree on the martyr journalist Sherine Abu Aqleh, in appreciation of her great role in covering the events as a field reporter, and her distinction in performing her duties with courage from within the occupied Palestinian territories, and conveying the suffering of the brotherly Palestinian people." Her brother Tariq Antoun received it. Abu sane.


On May 11, Abu Aqelah (51 years old) was killed by Israeli army bullets while she was covering field events in Jenin camp.


Earlier, King Abdullah described the killing of Abu Aqelah as a crime and an attack on the freedom of the press, while offering condolences to her family by phone. He directed a governmental media institute to allocate an annual master's scholarship for Palestinian women journalists bearing the late woman's name.
