Gaza - "Jerusalem" dot com - The Water and Environmental Quality Authority, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip, announced the sewage-contaminated areas from the coast of the governorates of the Strip, which are directly polluted by the discharge of partially treated sewage into them, and the length of these areas reached about 7500 m, and constitutes about 18% of the beach’s length, according to the attached map.

It should be noted that this determination is an initial determination based on spatial inspection and will be followed later by laboratory examinations.

Noting that the Water and Environmental Quality Authority and the Ministry of Health implement a periodic program to examine and evaluate the quality of the coastal waters of the Gaza governorates, especially before and during the summer season.

It is worth noting that the World Health Organization shows in its sources in particular that swimming in water contaminated with sewage causes upper respiratory infections, infections of the eyes, ear, nasal cavity and skin, in addition to infections of the digestive system for those who swallow this water while swimming.

The Water Authority asked all vacationers not to swim in the declared polluted areas for the sake of their health and safety.
