Israel summons the Mexican ambassador after demonstrators attacked its embassy in Mexico City

JERUSALEM - (Xinhua) - The Israeli Foreign Ministry today (Thursday) summoned the Mexican ambassador, Mauricio Osuncaro, over the attack on its embassy in Mexico City by Mexican demonstrators.

"We take the incident very seriously, and we expect the Mexican government to live up to its international obligations," the ministry said in a statement.
"We will raise the matter to the Mexican ambassador," she added.

The Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth said that Mexican demonstrators attacked the Israeli embassy in Mexico City during protests demanding that Israel extradite a former senior official wanted in connection with the disappearance of 43 students in 2014.

The newspaper pointed out that the demonstrators demanded the extradition of the former head of the Criminal Investigation Agency, Thomas Zeron.
She added that the demonstrators wrote "Free Palestine" and "Death to Israel" on the walls.

Zeron, who has been in Israel since 2019 and is seeking asylum, faces allegations of serious wrongdoing surrounding an investigation into the disappearance of 43 students in 2014, and the misappropriation of more than $50 million.
