IAEA verifies attack on Iranian nuclear facility under construction

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) announced today, Sunday, that it is monitoring and verifying field reports of a military attack targeting the construction site of the Darkhovin nuclear power plant in Iran during the night hours. The agency clarified in a brief statement that its technical teams are working to assess the situation at the facility, which is still in its early construction phases.

International sources confirmed that the targeted site did not contain any nuclear materials or radioactive fuel at the time of the incident, based on the results of the agency's last inspection tour of the site. This international move comes at a sensitive time when the region is witnessing escalating security tensions surrounding Iran's nuclear program.

For its part, the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran directly accused the United States of being behind the attack, describing the operation as a clear violation of international laws and an assault on a civilian facility under development. Local Iranian media had circulated news of the strike earlier, indicating material damage to the site's infrastructure.

The facility was in very early stages of construction and did not contain any nuclear materials at the time of its last inspection.
