The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said Thursday that the fate of nine Palestinian Red Crescent ambulance crews remains unknown for the fifth consecutive day after they were besieged and targeted by Israeli occupation forces in the Tel al-Sultan area of Rafah.
The Palestine Red Crescent Society expressed its deep concern for the safety of its teams, holding the occupying authorities fully responsible for their lives.
The association confirmed that its crews came under fire while carrying out their humanitarian missions, resulting in the loss of contact with them and preventing rescue teams from reaching them.
The association had previously issued statements warning of the danger of targeting medical personnel, stressing that what is happening constitutes a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, which guarantees the protection of healthcare workers.
In its successive statements, it also called for immediate intervention by the international community to allow rescue teams to reach the area and reveal the fate of the missing.
Today, the association renewed its call for urgent protection for ambulance crews and all humanitarian workers in the Gaza Strip, warning of the repercussions of continued attacks on medical services amid the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Strip.
