Palestinian Prisoners in Ofer Israeli prison and the Endless Suffering

The Palestinian Prisoners' Affairs Commission reported on Monday, citing its lawyer, that living and health conditions at Ofer prison remain difficult and complex due to Israel's retaliatory policies against prisoners.

She said: "The Israeli occupation authorities are exploiting this holy month, the month of fasting and worship, to impose a harsh and bitter reality on prisoners, by obstructing their ability to perform religious rituals and worship, in addition to deliberately starving them, attempting to isolate them from the outside world, and manipulating the clock and the call to prayer times to mislead them."

The Commission, through its lawyers, was able to visit a group of sick prisoners in detention, namely:

Prisoner Zuhair Abdul Hadi (64 years old), from Birzeit/Ramallah, suffers from high blood pressure, dry eyes, and high triglycerides. The prison administration deliberately neglects his medical condition and refuses to provide him with the necessary medication.

Prisoner Islam Zayed (17 years old), from Qalandia camp north of Jerusalem, suffered from health problems before his arrest, including bone problems and a health crisis. The prison administration refuses to provide him with any kind of medication.

Prisoner Abdullah Jaradat (22 years old), from the town of Sa'ir/Hebron, is an administrative detainee. He has been issued two administrative detention orders, each for a period of six months. He suffers from severe toothache and occasional dizziness.

Regarding the conditions at Ofer prison, prisoner Jaradat told the Commission's lawyer that the situation is tragic, noting that there has been no improvement in the conditions of prisoners in the prison, as the policy of repression and raids continues.

He added that on the third day of Ramadan, the prisoners were subjected to a raid by the prison administration's repression units on Section 21. They were then transferred to Section 25, while prisoners from Section 25 were transferred to Section 21. The raid was accompanied by physical assaults on the prisoners.

Jaradat also explained that the prisoners in his section have not been released for four weeks due to punishments imposed on them for unknown reasons.
