US President Donald Trump affirmed his good relationship with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky, indicating his desire to end the conflict between the two sides.
Trump said in press statements that "stopping the killing of soldiers on both sides would be a great thing," stressing that he had "very rational discussions about Ukraine" and was seeking to end the fighting and minimize casualties.
In a remarkable statement, Trump emphasized that "no one in the world will be able to stop Putin except me," indicating his desire to play a decisive role in ending the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.
"I know Putin very well, and it's amazing we haven't had a major confrontation over misleading allegations about Russia," he added, referring to previous accusations of Russian interference in his campaign.
Trump's statements come amid escalating tensions between Moscow and Kyiv, amid international attempts to reach a political settlement to end the conflict.
