MP Salah al-Bardawil, a member of Hamas's political bureau, and his wife were killed early Sunday morning in an Israeli airstrike on a tent where he was staying in a camp housing displaced persons west of Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip.
Sources in the movement told the German Press Agency (DPA) that the raid targeted tents housing a large number of displaced people, resulting in the martyrdom of a number of Palestinians.
The sources described the operation as a new escalation in Israeli attacks.
Sources within the movement expressed deep sorrow over the loss of one of its prominent political leaders.
Al-Bardawil is a prominent leader in Hamas and a member of its political bureau. He also served as a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council for the Change and Reform bloc and as the movement's official spokesperson.
