Double the suffering of prisoners in Negev prison during the month of Ramadan

The Palestinian Prisoners' Affairs Commission confirmed that prisoners in the Negev prison are subjected to the worst forms of treatment by prison guards, having been subjected to repression, beatings, and rubber bullets more than once over the past week.

The authority added in a statement issued Sunday that the prison administration deliberately mixes prisoners infected with scabies with those who are not infected, in order to transmit the infection to them as a form of punishment. It also exploits the month of Ramadan to further restrict prisoners by reducing food quantities and degrading its quality.

During his last visit to the prison, the committee’s lawyer reported that prisoner Ahmed Radwan Hamamra (26 years old) from the town of Kafr Aqab, north of occupied Jerusalem, is in a very bad health condition, as he suffers from a very advanced stage of scabieiosis, with boils spreading all over his body and covering his features. As a result, he suffers from anemia. He was presented to the prison clinic on the tenth of this month, but was not given any kind of treatment.

Hamamra was arrested on February 13, 2023, and was sentenced to administrative detention, which was renewed more than once. He is expected to be released on March 24, 2025.

As for prisoner Alaa Shalalda (23 years old) from the city of Hebron, who has been detained since March 20, 2024, he suffers from joint pain, sinusitis, and shortness of breath, and was recently given an antibiotic.

Meanwhile, prisoner Mohammed Hazin (35 years old) from Qalandia camp suffers from diabetes and high blood pressure. He takes insulin injections regularly and his health condition is stable.

It is noteworthy that Hazin has been detained since August 27, 2024, and was sentenced to administrative detention. He is expected to be released on June 25, 2025.
