Daniel Levy: We need 300 hours of silence to mourn the 18,000 children killed by Israel in Gaza

Former Israeli peace negotiator Daniel Levy said Tuesday that a minute of silence to mourn the 18,000 Palestinian children killed by Israeli bombing in the Gaza Strip will last for more than 300 hours.

Levy stressed the need to achieve justice for all people according to the same human laws.

This came in a speech he delivered before the UN Security Council.

During his speech, he sent a strong message to international representatives, calling for justice for the Palestinian people and the application of international laws to protect them, stressing that human suffering should not be selective.

He stressed that "no human being should ever be subjected to horrific experiences," including the Israeli and Palestinian people, who "deserve to live in safety."

Although he referred to the suffering of Israelis after the October 7, 2023 attack, which resulted in the killing and capture of dozens, he stressed that thousands of Palestinians were killed, wounded, and starved, while schools, hospitals, shelters, and entire residential neighborhoods were destroyed during the Israeli war of extermination on Gaza.

He praised the steadfastness of the Palestinians despite the humanitarian catastrophe that befell them as a result of the Israeli genocide.

He recalled Dr. Hussam Abu Safia, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, who "is still detained and being mistreated in Israeli prisons."

Levy stressed that the names of the child victims, whether Israeli or Palestinian, should not be forgotten.

In this regard, he said: "We must not forget the names of the Bibas family's children, Ariel and Kfir, and the circumstances of their deaths."

The Palestinian factions in Gaza confirm that they captured Sherry Bibas on October 7, 2023, and that she was allowed to take her two children with her out of mercy for them, and that this family was treated well according to the teachings of the true Islam, before their state bombed them with missiles, which led to their death and the killing of the captors.

“We should not forget the name of Laila al-Khatib, the two-year-old Palestinian girl who was killed a few days ago in her home in the occupied West Bank, while eating dinner with her family, or Hind Rajab, five years old, who was bombed and deprived of medical care, and died with her family” by Israeli fire during the war of extermination in Gaza, Levy added.

To show the disproportion between the suffering of Israelis and Palestinians, Levy said, “A minute of silence for the souls of Ariel and Kfir Bibas is appropriate.”

He added: "But if we stand for a minute of silence for the souls of 18,000 Palestinian children killed in Israeli bombing, the silence will last for more than 300 hours."

He stressed the need to "stop this conflict and human suffering," noting that it "results from political conflict, tragedies that can be prevented, and many other tragedies that await steps that have not been taken."

"We are all human beings, and we are all born equal," he said.

"We can and must use strong and influential language," Levy added. "After all, we have rules, laws, charters, agreements and rights that are supposed to be applied, not ignored."
