Ben Gvir: The Israeli government pledged to bring 60,000 caravans into the Gaza Strip
Resigned Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir said that the Israeli government pledged to bring 60,000 mobile homes (caravans) into the Gaza Strip, and also agreed that Hamas is responsible for determining the place to which Palestinian prisoners will be released.
This came in a post by Ben Gvir, on his account on the X platform, on Thursday, in which he attacked the Israeli government and accused it of surrendering to Hamas.
Ben Gvir's post came in response to what the private Hebrew Channel 12 reported that Hamas, which determines the destination of the released Palestinian prisoners whose deportation Israel stipulated as part of the ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal, said.
Ben-Gvir, who resigned from the government in January in protest at the signing of the deal, said that “every day another hidden clause in this illegal agreement, which is all surrender to Hamas, is revealed.”
"Suddenly it became clear that Israel had pledged to bring 60,000 caravans into the Strip," he added.
He continued: "Now it has become clear that Hamas will determine the place to which the terrorists (Palestinian prisoners) will be released."
Ben Gvir described the agreement as "a complete security, political and moral bankruptcy."
Ben Gvir's statements about Israel allowing 60,000 caravans to enter Gaza come shortly after Omer Dostri, spokesman for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, denied this.
Netanyahu's spokesman said: "As we have made clear many times: no caravans or heavy equipment will be brought into the Gaza Strip, and there is no coordination in this regard."
He added: "According to the agreement, no goods will be allowed to enter the Gaza Strip through the Rafah crossing."
Channel 12 revealed on Thursday that the Israeli National Security Council responded to a request made by the father of an Israeli soldier killed in an attack in 2016, and demanded the release of his son's killers to the Gaza Strip and not abroad as part of the deal.
The National Security Council said in its response: "The government decision that approved the plan to release the kidnapped Israelis set a condition regarding some of the terrorists, requiring their release to the Gaza Strip or abroad."
He added: "This condition does not include a mechanism for determining the destination to which the terrorist will be transferred - the Gaza Strip or abroad. Therefore, unfortunately, we cannot comply with your request."
On January 19, a ceasefire agreement began in the Gaza Strip and a prisoner exchange between Hamas and Israel. It includes three stages, each lasting 42 days. During the first, negotiations will be held to start the second and third stages, with the mediation of Egypt and Qatar and the support of the United States.
