Trump, while receiving the Jordanian King, confirms the seizure of Gaza and the annexation of the West Bank

US President Donald Trump said during his meeting with Jordan's King Abdullah at the White House on Tuesday that there must be a piece of land in Jordan for Palestinians who will be displaced under his plan to take control of the Gaza Strip and permanently relocate its population. He met with Jordan's King Abdullah II amid widespread opposition to his plan among Washington's Arab allies, including Jordan.

Shortly after the king and crown prince arrived at the White House, journalists were allowed into the Oval Office where the US president signalled he would not budge from his plan for Washington to take control of the Gaza Strip, relocate the bewildered residents and reshape the war-torn territory.

"We give Jordan and Egypt a lot of money, but we're not going to make any threats about it," Trump added, stressing, "We're going to take control of Gaza." Asked what authority he has over Gaza, he said, "Under American authority."

Trump added that "the development of Gaza, which will happen a long time from now, will bring many jobs to the region," noting that he had "quick discussions with the King of Jordan now and later we will have longer discussions."

"We will ensure that there will be peace in the Gaza Strip and there will be development on the widest scale in the region," he said.

Asked about Israel annexing the occupied West Bank, Trump said, "It will work," without elaborating.

In response, King Abdullah II said, "I have to do what is in the best interest of my country."

King Abdullah did not express support for what Trump is saying, but he said that Egypt is preparing a plan on how to work with the United States regarding Trump's plan to control Gaza.

"As I said, we will be in Saudi Arabia to discuss how we will work with the president and with the United States... Let's wait for the Egyptians to come and present the plan to the president," he added.

He pointed out that his country will receive 2,000 sick children from Gaza.

The meeting between Abdullah II and Trump comes in the wake of the US President's controversial statements, which were met with a wave of widespread international condemnation and denunciation, regarding the seizure of the Gaza Strip and the displacement of Palestinians from it.

Since January 25, Trump has been proposing to displace the Palestinians of Gaza to neighboring countries, such as Jordan and Egypt, which was rejected by both countries, and was joined by other Arab countries and regional and international organizations.
