Israeli negotiating delegation heads to Doha on Saturday to complete prisoner exchange talks
The Israeli negotiating delegation will head to the Qatari capital, Doha, next Saturday, to resume prisoner exchange talks with Hamas.
The official Israeli Broadcasting Corporation said on Thursday that the delegation, which consists of officials from the General Security Service (Shabak) and the Intelligence Service (Mossad), will head to Doha on Saturday to complete the prisoner exchange deal talks.
According to the Authority, Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar gave orders to the negotiating team to prepare to complete the first phase of the deal and begin the second phase of the agreement.
The Israeli side is awaiting Hamas to publish a list of detainees on Friday, in preparation for their release scheduled for Saturday, according to the same source.
The body pointed to concerns in Israel that a series of statements made by US President Donald Trump regarding the seizure of Gaza and the displacement of Palestinians could harm the negotiations.
Since January 25, Trump has been promoting a plan to transfer the Palestinians of Gaza to neighboring countries such as Egypt and Jordan, which was rejected by both countries, and was joined by other Arab countries and regional and international organizations.
Negotiations on the mechanism for implementing the second phase of the agreement were scheduled to begin last Monday, on the 16th day of the ceasefire, but the Hebrew newspaper Haaretz quoted an unnamed member of the delegation accompanying Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on his trip to Washington as saying that the latter would not commit to implementing the second phase of the agreement without eliminating Hamas.
On January 19, a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement went into effect in three stages, each lasting 42 days. During the first, negotiations were held to start the second and third, with the mediation of Qatar and Egypt and the support of the United States.
