First attack on Israeli occupation forces since the start of their incursion into Syria

The Israeli army announced that gunmen opened fire on its forces in the Quneitra countryside on the liberated side of the occupied Golan Heights, for the first time since the start of its incursion into Syria and its occupation of the buffer zone following the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime.

The occupation army said in a statement that the attack took place on Friday evening, without causing any injury to any of its soldiers, adding that it responded to the source of the gunfire.

He added that his forces in the region will work to remove what he described as threats facing Israel and its citizens.

In turn, the Israeli Army Radio described the incident as unusual, noting that it was the first time that Israeli forces had been targeted by fire since the start of their incursion into the buffer zone in the Golan Heights and adjacent areas in southern Syria.

For his part, media sources reported that the shooting took place in the town of Taranja in the northern Quneitra countryside during an Israeli force’s incursion into the town.

The sources said that Israeli helicopters intervened to secure the withdrawal of the invading forces, and the attacking forces used flares.

He added that the Israeli forces arrested two people during their incursion into Taranja.

Since the fall of Assad on December 8, the Israeli army has carried out incursions into a number of cities and towns in the Quneitra and Daraa governorates on the border strip with the occupied Golan Heights before withdrawing from most of them.
