US pledges to Israel to disrupt reconstruction and bring in "caravans" in northern Gaza
Israel received American pledges to halt the reconstruction of areas in the northern Gaza Strip, and to postpone the process of introducing prefabricated homes (caravans) into areas in northern Gaza adjacent to the settlements to a longer time frame, until security plans are agreed upon to ensure the security of the settlements adjacent to the Strip, according to what Al-Araby Al-Jadeed reported on Wednesday morning.
The American pledges were conveyed to Tel Aviv during a meeting between the US President's envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu prior to the announcement of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
It was reported that there is an American plan that includes security concepts and projects that will be funded by the United States and the Gulf, related to the permanent buffer zone between the settlements of the Gaza Strip and the Strip, to ensure that the Strip does not pose any future threat to Israel.
According to the information, the American pledges to Netanyahu to urge him to proceed with the agreement aim in their content to push the Palestinians to emigrate from the Strip, by obstructing and slowing down the reconstruction process and making the areas of northern Gaza uninhabitable in the long term.
In this context, Witkov arrived in Israel on a visit that includes a field tour in the Gaza Strip, to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire agreement and prisoner exchange between Israel and Hamas.
Israeli reports indicated that Witkov's visit comes amid ongoing preparations and preliminary discussions regarding the second phase of the ceasefire agreement, negotiations for which are scheduled to begin on the 16th day of the agreement, which falls next Tuesday.
As part of his visit to the region, the US envoy intends to conduct a field visit to the Gaza Strip, which may include the Netzarim axis and the Kerem Shalom crossing, amid reports that the US administration aims to ensure the full implementation of the agreement in relation to the normalization process between Israel and Saudi Arabia.
