Signs of an agreement are looming on the horizon!
There is optimism among negotiators and mediators after tangible progress was made in the negotiations files in order to reach a ceasefire agreement and begin implementing the stages of the exchange deal. Despite the existence of gaps, news coming from Doha indicates that some differences may be postponed to the next stages and negotiated later, that is, after the implementation of the first stage.
It seems that the surprise visit of Steve Witkoff, US President Donald Trump’s envoy, to Israel to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, coming from Doha and the files he brought with him from there, achieved a relative breakthrough, allowing Israel to send a high-ranking delegation from the Mossad, the Shin Bet and the army to continue negotiations in order to present the draft agreement with Witkoff’s return to the Qatari capital.
An important question that is always asked with every round of negotiations: Will the deal succeed or fail? Netanyahu, as usual, appears and imposes impossible conditions that push Hamas to reject the agreement in the formulas that Israel is trying to impose. This is what has repeatedly caused the failure of mediators in their efforts to end the war. Therefore, this question can be asked again to see to what extent these negotiations can succeed.
Is Israel really convinced that its delegation, which it will allow to fly to Doha, is capable of meeting the mediators’ demands and finalizing a deal after recent progress in the files that occurred during the past few days?
After discussions held by Netanyahu with senior officials, it became clear that the Israeli government must pledge to Trump not to return to war and fighting in Gaza. Will Netanyahu, who has obstructed previous deals, succeed in passing the deal this time without evasions and tricks, especially since the proposed agreement includes a partial withdrawal of the Israeli occupation forces, especially from the Philadelphi Corridor?
Hours and perhaps several days are crucial before reaching an agreement, which seems to be very important for the citizens of Gaza who have tasted the bitterness and suffering of war, and are looking forward impatiently to an agreement that will stop the aggression and pave the way for the army’s withdrawal, and thus stop its raids and give Gaza a glimmer of hope to breathe and return to life.
