Heavy rains and strong winds flood hundreds of tents in Gaza Strip
Hundreds of tents in displacement camps in various areas of the Gaza Strip were flooded last night and early Tuesday morning due to heavy rains, which exacerbated the suffering of families living in tragic conditions in light of the continued Israeli occupation bombing.
The displaced reported that their tents were blown away by the strong winds that swept the Strip over the past two days, forcing them to face the bitter cold without any protection.
The displaced, especially in the areas of Deir al-Balah and Mawasi Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip, spent a harsh night inside their tents, which were swallowed by rainwater and blown away by winds.
This cold weather comes at a time when medical sources announced the death of an infant in the Gaza Strip due to the cold and low temperatures. He is the seventh person to die due to the cold and lack of heating in less than a week.
Rescue teams received hundreds of distress calls from displaced people to rescue them and their children, whose tents and destroyed homes were flooded by rainwater.
She pointed out that she could only evacuate the displaced from their damaged shelters to other places that were mostly unsuitable for shelter, and they remained in the open under the rain and bitter cold.
The catastrophic humanitarian conditions have forced about 2 million displaced people since October 7, 2023, to live in dilapidated tents that lack the minimum requirements for a decent life and do not protect against the cold of winter or the harsh frost waves, after the Israeli occupation forces destroyed their homes.
UNICEF's chief communications officer in Gaza, Rosalia Paulin, warned of the difficult situation in the Gaza Strip with the onset of winter, noting that children are feeling cold and damp, while many of them are still wearing summer clothes. She added that children are searching through the rubble for pieces of plastic to burn, and that diseases are spreading in the Strip in light of the lack of health services and the continuous attacks on hospitals.
The Israeli occupation continues its aggression on the Gaza Strip, by land, sea and air, since October 7, 2023, which resulted in the death of 45,541 citizens, the majority of whom are women and children, and the injury of 108,338 others, in an incomplete toll, as thousands of victims are still under the rubble and in the streets, and ambulance and rescue crews cannot reach them.
