New details about the Israel-Hamas deal.. 5 main points
Israeli sources revealed growing optimism about reaching a deal to release the hostages in Gaza, which could lead to an agreement with Hamas in the coming weeks or days.
According to estimates, the deal will include a ceasefire for about a month and a half, the release of dozens of Israeli hostages, and the release of hundreds of Palestinian detainees.
The new agreement will also specify the mechanisms that will ensure supervision of the return of Gaza residents to the northern part of the Strip, according to Israeli sources.
According to reports, Hamas agreed to a "reduced" Israeli military presence along the axes, including the Philadelphi corridor, although no precise details were provided regarding the size of the forces that would remain.
Channel 14 Israel published the new details:
- The release of dozens of Israeli prisoners in exchange for 700 to 1,000 Palestinian prisoners in batches.
- Among the Palestinian prisoners to be released are prisoners with "high life sentences."
- 60-day ceasefire.
- The return of the displaced to the northern Gaza Strip according to a security system that will supervise this.
- The implementation of the agreement will be in simultaneous stages by both parties to ensure compliance.
Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz revealed on Monday that a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and the return of the hostages were closer than ever, and called for not sharing the details.
"There will be an overwhelming majority in favor of the deal on the table and we are the closest we have ever been to it," Katz said in a closed meeting with Knesset members.
He stressed that "it is better to talk as little as possible."
