WHO loses contact with Kamal Adwan Hospital staff

Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, announced today, Friday, that contact had been lost with the staff of the Martyr Kamal Adwan Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip after it was stormed by the Israeli occupation army.

Ghebreyesus added, in a statement published on his account on the X platform, that "what is happening is a worrying development, given the overcrowding of Kamal Adwan Hospital with about 200 patients, in addition to hundreds of displaced people."

“Late last night, WHO and partners were able to reach Kamal Adwan Hospital and transferred 23 patients and 26 caregivers to Al-Shifa Hospital,” he explained.

The UN team also delivered 180 units of blood, surgical supplies and medicines to the hospital for more than 5,000 patients, according to the same statement.

Ghebreyesus said that "contact with the staff there has been lost" after news emerged on Friday morning that the Israeli occupation army had stormed it.

He considered this "a very worrying development given the number of patients being served and the number of people sheltering in the hospital."

Earlier on Friday, medical and local sources announced that the Israeli occupation army had detained hundreds of patients, medical staff and displaced persons in the Martyr Kamal Adwan Hospital after storming it.

Since October 5, the occupation forces have continued their ground invasion and violent bombardment of various areas in the northern Gaza Strip, while continuing their efforts to empty the area of its residents through forced evacuation and displacement.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel, the occupying power, has been waging a war of genocide on the Gaza Strip, leaving more than 143,000 dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing, amid massive destruction and famine that has killed dozens of children and the elderly, in one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the world.

Israel continues this war, ignoring the UN Security Council resolution to end it immediately, and the International Court of Justice’s orders to take measures to prevent acts of genocide and improve the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza.
