Second Lebanese soldier killed in war, dozens killed in new Israeli raids
In Lebanon, dozens of victims were reported killed and wounded in new Israeli raids, including the second soldier killed since the beginning of the war about a year ago.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health confirmed, on Monday, that 63 people were killed and 92 injured in a series of Israeli raids on various areas in the south and east of the country.
For its part, the Lebanese army announced on Monday the death of a soldier as a result of an Israeli drone strike that targeted a motorcycle as it passed a checkpoint in southern Lebanon, making him the first soldier to be killed since Israel began launching intensive raids on several areas last week.
"A soldier was martyred as a result of an Israeli enemy drone targeting a motorcycle as it passed a checkpoint" in the Wazzani border area with Israel, the army said in a post on the X platform.
According to a source close to the army, the Israeli drone targeted "the bicycle that two Syrians were riding, which resulted in the soldier being hit by shrapnel, and he was martyred as a result."
This is the second Lebanese soldier to be killed by Israeli fire since Hezbollah and Israel began exchanging fire on October 8, after the start of the Al-Aqsa Intifada.
Since September 23, Israel has launched the "most violent and extensive" attack on Lebanon since the beginning of the confrontations with Hezbollah about a year ago, which has resulted, until Monday afternoon, in no less than 962 deaths, including children and women, and 2,778 wounded, according to data from the Lebanese authorities.
