Israel begins laying the foundations for building an electric elevator in Al-Aqsa Mosque
In a dangerous move, the Israeli occupation authorities began, on Sunday, laying foundations for the construction of an electric elevator 200 square meters from the Buraq Wall towards Al-Aqsa Mosque, to facilitate settlers’ incursions.
According to the occupation authorities' allegations, the elevator will be allocated to "disabled" and "elderly" settlers to facilitate their storming of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Over the past months, the occupation authorities have worked to change the status quo, under the pretext of carrying out maintenance work or routine work in its vicinity, such as installing a spy tower on top of the Tankiziya School overlooking the courtyards of the mosque, which includes surveillance cameras and eavesdropping devices, and mobile iron barriers at Bab al-Asbat, and the demolition of large areas around the Buraq Wall to expand it to accommodate the largest number of “Jewish worshippers,” in preparation for the construction of an electric elevator that is currently being worked on, with the aim of imposing new facts on Al-Aqsa.
The Judaization project was implemented in the Ibrahimi Mosque on an area of 300 square meters of the mosque’s courtyards and facilities, including a biblical garden and the installation of an electric elevator to facilitate settlers’ incursions, with 2 million shekels allocated to finance it.
Member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Head of the Jerusalem Department Adnan al-Husseini said that all the actions carried out by the occupation are completely rejected and condemned, and everything it does falls within the context of Judaizing the city, destroying its cultural and historical appearance, changing the face of the Arab city, and facilitating the settlers’ access to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, as happened in the Ibrahimi Mosque in the city of Hebron about two years ago, to facilitate the settlers’ incursions.
He explained that the occupation has Judaization projects in the city of Jerusalem, where work is underway to establish a cable car that will start from the central station in West Jerusalem, reach the town of Silwan, and then to the surroundings of the Old City, towards the Mount of Olives area to the east, and then return, and the goal is to bring and attract millions of Jewish tourists.
In turn, the coordinator of the national and Islamic forces in Jerusalem, writer Rasem Obeidat, said that this step comes within the framework of the raging attack on Al-Aqsa Mosque, which may intensify under the leadership of extremist Itamar Ben Gvir to change the religious, historical, and legal reality towards creating a Jewish life, especially after his threats to establish a synagogue in the courtyards of the mosque, to strip the mosque of its pure Islamic sanctity, as a first stage for there to be a partnership in the place.
He explained that the occupation is working to build an escalator under the pretext of facilitating the movement of disabled Jews and the elderly, so as not to stir up public opinion against them. Therefore, they resorted to using humanitarian cases as a cover to increase the number of daily incursions by settlers.
Obaidat stressed that the occupation is working to separate the Buraq Wall and the Al-Sharaf neighborhood completely from the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, pointing out that the committees formed by Britain after the Buraq Revolution said that the Buraq Wall is an essential part of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, and they do not have the right to pray on the sidewalk even.
He added: We are now facing an extremist right-wing government that is trying to impose facts on Al-Aqsa Mosque. When the elevator is built, this means an increase in the number of settlers storming the mosque, especially during the upcoming holidays such as the Hebrew New Year, or what is known as Yom Kippur, and the Feast of Tabernacles, in addition to the speed of their transfer. Today we are facing facts in implementation of the division process, and that the Jews will have a foothold in the mosque.
Obaidat said: The occupation had previously planned to establish this colonial project, but it was disrupted every time due to the protests and confrontations taking place against the process of changing the religious, legal, and historical reality of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
He called for popular and official action, especially the Jordanian government, which has guardianship, to take action to prevent the occupation government’s operations to Judaize Al-Aqsa Mosque and its attempt to control it permanently.
