Israeli occupation carried out 320 demolitions in Jerusalem, including 87 in Silwan, since last October
The Jerusalem Governorate said on Wednesday that the Israeli occupation authorities had carried out 320 demolition operations, including more than 87 in the town of Silwan, south of Al-Aqsa Mosque, since October 7, 2023.
According to the Jerusalem Governorate, each demolition operation involves the demolition of more than one house and commercial facility, which results in the displacement of thousands of citizens.
She explained that there are more than 30,000 properties in Jerusalem threatened with demolition, which will lead to displacement and economic losses for the lives of about 100,000 Jerusalemites.
She pointed out that the occupation is rushing to carry out the demolition operations, and that a number of homes and facilities were demolished without notification, or without waiting for a "judicial" decision regarding the demolition.
The governorate stated that the town of Silwan in particular is being systematically targeted, especially the neighborhoods of Al-Bustan, Wadi Al-Rababa, and Wadi Qaddum, due to their proximity to Al-Aqsa Mosque, and to implement the occupation's plans to demolish them to establish the so-called biblical gardens.
She pointed out that the demolitions are not limited to the areas within the racist separation and expansion wall, but rather they have extended to the towns of Hizma, Anata and Al-Ram, in order to pass settlement plans to open and expand settlements in Jerusalem.
