Legal memorandum asking ICC Prosecutor to open an investigation intoIsrael’s crimes in the West Bank
The international team of lawyers assigned by the Palestinian Bar Association submitted a memorandum to the International Prosecutor yesterday, to consider the request to open an independent investigation into the current crimes of the occupation in the West Bank, due to the presence of unarmed civilian victims who were assassinated by the Israeli army without having the minimum means of self-defense, which is considered a crime punishable by international criminal law.
The team submitted its memorandum to strengthen the complaint submitted on December 6, 2023 and all its annexes, regarding crimes committed in the Gaza Strip since October 7, demanding that the investigation into Israeli crimes in the West Bank be independent from the investigation into the occupation’s crimes in the Gaza Strip.
The head of the international lawyers’ team, Dr. Faisal Khazal, said in a press statement, a copy of which was received by Quds.com yesterday: “The attacks on parts of the West Bank are likely to be an attempt to confuse the investigation papers into the crimes that occurred in the Gaza Strip, and an attempt to distort the vision of the international prosecutor and the International Criminal Court in this regard. Therefore, we requested that they be separated from any investigation that may arise from the current events in the West Bank, just as they were previously separated from the investigation file for the year 2014, due to the difference in the data, crimes and their sequence, as well as to prevent the defendants from trying to manipulate the facts of the crimes that occurred on the lands of Palestine in 1967 (the West Bank and the Gaza Strip), which fall under the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court.”
It is worth noting that the Hebrew newspaper "Israel Today" published news stating that the Israeli security services decided to classify the West Bank as a second combat zone after Gaza, indicating that a series of army attacks are expected to be carried out throughout the West Bank.
