Gaza: Number of murdered journalists rises to 171 since October 7

The Government Media Office in the Gaza Strip announced on Monday evening that the number of Palestinian journalists killed in the Strip has risen to 171, since the start of the Israeli war on October 7, 2023.

The office said in a statement on Telegram: "The number of killed journalists has risen to 171, male and female, since the beginning of the genocidal war on the Gaza Strip, after the death of our colleague, journalist Ali Nayef Ta'ima."

He explained that Taaima "worked as a journalist with several media outlets," without mentioning the circumstances of his death.

The office also condemned "in the strongest terms the Israeli occupation's targeting and killing of Palestinian journalists," and held it "fully responsible for committing this heinous crime."

The Government Media Office in Gaza called on "the international community and international organizations concerned with journalistic work to deter the occupation and prosecute it in international courts for its ongoing crimes and to pressure it to stop the crime of genocide and to stop the crime of killing and assassinating Palestinian journalists."

Palestinian and international institutions are constantly warning of the Israeli army targeting press crews in the Gaza Strip, but Tel Aviv has continued to target them despite them wearing press vests and helmets, thus defying international warnings.
