Israeli writers attack Netanyahu after Hezbollah's response
Israeli writers launched a violent attack on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, after the recent escalation with the Lebanese Hezbollah, which bombarded the occupied territories with hundreds of missiles and drones, in an initial response to the assassination of its prominent leader Fuad Shukr.
Israeli analyst Ben Caspit stated in an article on the Walla website that Netanyahu had once again resorted to the "easy option" in the confrontation with Hezbollah.
He added that "Netanyahu, instead of choosing strong moves that would restore Israeli deterrence and return the residents of the Upper Galilee to their homes, preferred a successful but limited disruption operation."
Ben Caspit said that "the operation, which achieved great success, did not change anything in our strategic situation in the northern arena."
Ben Caspit doubted the ability of the occupation government to enter into an open confrontation with Hezbollah, expecting that what happened in the past hours would contribute to efforts to reach a settlement in the occupied Palestinian north.
Another Israeli analyst and expert, Nir Kepinis, stated in an article on Walla that “Hassan Nasrallah is lying, but what about the IDF spokesman? If he is lying, he is serious, and if he is telling the truth – and most of the rockets that were thwarted in the IDF attack were intended to be fired at the north – then the matter is worse.”
Kepinis said that “the government, in cooperation with the army, is postponing the inevitable confrontation, and we will all pay a heavy price, as in the south.”
In the Maariv newspaper, retired Brigadier General Danny Van Buren spoke about the existence of a historic opportunity to enter into a comprehensive confrontation.
He stated in an article that “the confrontation with Iran cannot be postponed,” continuing: “We must understand the interests of all parties in the equation, and achieve only Israel’s interests. In the current reality, only strong military action will ensure this.”
He added that the opportunity is now available to deal a strong blow to Iran and Hezbollah, before Tehran obtains its nuclear program, and its allies regain their strength.

Former officer in the "Shin Bet" Moshe Bozilov, went towards the necessity of avoiding entering into an open war with Iran and Hezbollah.
He stated in an article in the newspaper "Maariv": "We are in a theatrical war, where each side is testing the limits of the other's ability to endure. If Israel continues to operate according to the model of precise preventive strikes, while maintaining political coordination with the United States and NATO, there is a good chance of avoiding a comprehensive war."
Despite this, Bozilov expected that the US administration would push towards escalation with Iran, by directing a strike against Iran as a "sponsor of terrorism," which could plunge the region into an open war.
Israeli writer Yossi Yehoshua said that the Israeli army leadership must change the equation in the occupied Palestinian north, according to an article in the newspaper "Yedioth".
He added that the residents of the northern settlements feel very frustrated by what happened, and quoted the leaders of the northern settlement municipalities as saying: "From now on, we will stop all contacts with the government until a complete and comprehensive solution is reached for the residents and children of the northern border."
