Netanyahu's office denies discussing deployment of international forces in Philadelphi corridor
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office on Thursday denied what it described as reports that talks were underway to introduce international forces into the Philadelphi corridor in the Gaza Strip.
Netanyahu's office said in a statement that "reports that discussed the introduction of international forces on the Philadelphi (Salah al-Din) corridor are incorrect, and the prime minister is committed to the principle that Israel will control the corridor, with the aim of preventing Hamas from rearming."
Media outlets and newspapers, including the Hebrew newspaper Haaretz, previously circulated reports that negotiations were underway to deploy international forces on the axis in exchange for the withdrawal of the Israeli army.
Earlier on Thursday, Netanyahu reiterated his commitment to controlling the Philadelphi Corridor on the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt.
The Washington Post also quoted unnamed US administration sources on Thursday as saying that "Netanyahu mentioned in a phone call he made today with US President Joe Biden a map detailing the locations where Israeli forces will remain along the Philadelphia axis."
In return, Hamas insists on ending the war, the complete withdrawal of the Israeli army from the Gaza Strip, and the freedom of return of the displaced to their areas, as part of any prisoner exchange agreement.
