Israeli Ambassador: UN Headquarters Must Be Wiped Off the Face of the Earth

Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Gilad Erdan said that "the UN building must be closed and wiped off the face of the earth."

The Israeli newspaper Maariv quoted Erdan as saying on Tuesday, "This building may look beautiful from the outside, but it is crooked and distorted," referring to the UN building in New York, USA.

Regarding his future plans, Erdan said that he sees himself in the future as the leader of the Likud party after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The newspaper pointed out that this is not the first time that Erdan has attacked the United Nations, referring to his call last month to close the UN compound in Jerusalem and deport the heads of agencies based in Israel in order to "send a clear message that the continued bias and exploitation of the UN against Israel will have a price."

Erdan is a Likud leader and has previously attacked UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) more than once.

Israel claims that the United Nations is an institution biased against it. Tensions between Tel Aviv and the United Nations escalated after the latter included the Israeli army on the blacklist of entities accused of killing children last June.

For its part, the British newspaper Financial Times quoted Israeli sources as saying that Netanyahu's government is considering taking retaliatory measures against UN agencies operating in Palestine in response, including agencies that play an important role in relief operations in the Gaza Strip.

Since October 7, Israel has been waging a devastating war on Gaza - with broad American support - that has left more than 133,000 Palestinian martyrs and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing, amid massive destruction and deadly famine.

In disregard of the international community, Israel continues the war, ignoring the UN Security Council resolution to stop it immediately, and the orders of the International Court of Justice to take measures to prevent acts of genocide and improve the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza.
