OCHA: 280 aid workers killed in 2023

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced on Monday that aid workers on the front lines of conflicts around the world are being killed in unprecedented numbers, with 280 aid workers killed in 33 countries last year.

According to the office's official website, this significantly high number represents a 137% increase compared to 2022, in which 118 aid workers were recorded killed.

The office noted that 2024 is on track to be an even deadlier year, with 172 aid workers killed so far, according to the provisional tally from the Aid Worker Security Database.

He explained that more than half of the victims in 2023 were recorded in the Gaza Strip, with the Israeli war on the Strip continuing since October 7.
