Gaza government expects 50,000 deaths, confirms destruction of 80% of medical equipment

The Director General of the Government Media Office in Gaza, Ismail Al-Thawabta, said that the real number of killed in the Strip may have exceeded 50 thousand martyrs, in light of the presence of thousands of missing persons under the rubble of destroyed buildings since the beginning of the Israeli aggression on the besieged Strip.

He added that the war of extermination waged by the occupation in the Gaza Strip targets various segments of society, stressing the martyrdom of more than 885 doctors and nurses, more than 168 journalists and media professionals, more than 79 civil defense officers, more than 100 scientists, thinkers and university professors, 9,000 male and female students, and 500 male and female teachers.

Al-Thawabta also confirmed to Al Jazeera that the occupation army destroyed more than 80% of the medical equipment in the Strip.

There is no room for doubt about the numbers.

The Ministry of Health in Gaza said that the number of killed exceeded 40,000 since the beginning of the Israeli aggression on the Strip, while the number of wounded reached 92,401.

The Director General of the Ministry, Dr. Munir Al-Barash, said that the numbers published by the Ministry of Health are beyond doubt, as every victim who died as a result of the Israeli bombing has a record at the Ministry containing all of his data.

Al-Barash added that estimates indicate that the real number exceeds the official number announced by about 10,000.

For his part, the head of the Norwegian medical team to the Gaza Strip, Mads Gilbert, said that the estimated number of dead in Gaza would be three times greater than the announced number.

Gilbert added that the current war conditions do not allow access to all the victims and identifying their real number, indicating that the number may range between 120,000 and 180,000 martyrs.
