Agreement to release soldiers accused of torturing Palestinian detainees in "Sde Teiman"

Despite international condemnations and demands to investigate the inhumane conditions in which prisoners are held in the Sde Teiman camp, Israeli media revealed an agreement to release occupation soldiers accused of torturing detainees in the camp.

Israeli Channel 14 said on Tuesday that the agreement with the soldiers includes their release and house arrest.

The Israeli Broadcasting Authority revealed that 10 soldiers severely beat a prisoner from Gaza, whose name was not mentioned, and he was taken to the hospital suffering from serious injuries.

On July 29, 9 occupation soldiers were arrested for investigation on charges of torturing and sexually assaulting Palestinian detainees in the Sde Teiman camp.

Israeli media circulated a video early this week documenting the incident of occupation soldiers sexually assaulting a detainee in the "Sde Teiman" camp.

A week ago, dozens of right-wing extremists led by Knesset members, including masked soldiers, stormed the military court in protest against the arrest of the accused soldiers.

Since the beginning of the aggression on Gaza, on October 7, 2023, the occupation forces have turned the "Sde Teiman" base into a prison to detain citizens from the Gaza Strip, in inhumane conditions, where they remain handcuffed and blindfolded all the time, and are subjected to brutal torture.

With the start of the occupation forces' ground attack on the Gaza Strip on October 27, thousands of civilians were arrested, including women, children, health workers and civil defense personnel.

In recent months, there have been increasing reports of attacks on detainees in occupation prisons, especially in the “Sde Teiman” prison, and the occupation authorities usually claim to be investigating the matter without tangible results.

This is not the first time that occupation soldiers have escaped punishment for crimes they committed against our people. The military court released Elor Azaria, who was convicted of killing the martyr Abdel Fattah al-Sharif while he was wounded in Hebron in 2016 in front of photographers’ lenses, after completing his sentence, which did not exceed nine months. In 2023, it released two settlers who committed the crime of killing the martyr Qusay Mu’tan (19 years old) during a terrorist attack by settlers on the village of Burqa, east of Ramallah.
