Hezbollah announces launching Katyusha rocket attack on Israeli military base
Lebanon's Hezbollah announced today (Monday) that it had bombed a military base in northern Israel with Katyusha rockets in response to the targeting of villages in southern Lebanon last night.
Hezbollah's war media issued a statement saying, "The Islamic Resistance fighters today bombed the newly established headquarters of the 146th Division in Ja'toun with a barrage of Katyusha rockets," in response to "the Israeli enemy's attacks on the steadfast southern villages and safe homes, especially in the town of Ma'roub" in the western sector of southern Lebanon.
Lebanese military sources told Xinhua that 12 civilians were injured last night in an Israeli airstrike on the town of Maaroub, which also destroyed several homes.
She added that most of the injured were Syrian refugees, including one Lebanese civilian, noting that the Lebanese Red Cross and Civil Defense teams worked to transfer the injured to hospitals in the city of Tyre in southern Lebanon, including women and children.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health's Public Health Emergency Operations Center said in a statement that "according to a preliminary detailed tally of the wounded from the Israeli raid that targeted the town of Maaroub, resulting in 12 wounded, including 11 Syrians and a Lebanese citizen, two critical cases were recorded for a woman and a 5-month-old girl."
A state of intense anticipation has prevailed in Lebanon since the killing of Hezbollah's prominent military commander, Fouad Shukr, in an Israeli raid that targeted a building in the southern suburb of Beirut on July 30, as the Secretary-General of the Lebanese Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, threatened Israel with a "real, calculated response."
Hezbollah and the Israeli army have been exchanging fire across the Lebanese-Israeli border since October 8, against the backdrop of the ongoing war between the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and Israel in the Gaza Strip, amid international fears that the confrontations could escalate into a full-scale war.
