Palestinian Journalists Syndicate: 137 crimes against journalists in July
The Journalists Syndicate said that it had monitored 137 crimes, assaults and violations by the Israeli occupation forces against Palestinian journalists during the month of July.
In a statement issued by the Freedoms Committee today, Friday, it explained that the most prominent of these crimes was the killing of 9 journalists through shelling with missiles and shells or through targeting with booby-trapped drones in the Gaza Strip.
It added that 5 journalists sustained bloody injuries to their limbs, 4 were arrested, 8 were beaten, 5 were verbally assaulted, and 4 were threatened with death by brandishing weapons.
It pointed out that the phenomenon of easy shooting at press crews directly under the pretext of preventing coverage continues to increase, as 10 cases were monitored and documented, 16 cases were exposed to the firing of tear gas and sound bombs, 9 cases of confiscation and destruction of work equipment, and 4 colleagues were subjected to unfair military courts and 3 were investigated.
The statement noted that 51 incidents of violations of coverage ban and crew detention were recorded.
It stressed the continuation of monitoring, documenting and publishing all the crimes of the occupation and communicating with all international human rights and trade union bodies, in order to provide protection for Palestinian journalists and prosecute the occupation for its crimes and prevent it from escaping punishment.
