Statement by the Leaders of US, Qatar, and Egypt on the Gaza Negotiations
The leaders of Qatar, Egypt and the United States issued a joint statement, calling for an immediate end to the suffering of the people of the Gaza Strip, and calling on Israel and the resistance to resume negotiations to reach an immediate solution on August 15.
"It is time, immediately, to put an end to the long-standing suffering of the people of the Gaza Strip, as well as of the hostages and their families. It is time to conclude a ceasefire agreement and release the hostages and detainees," the statement said.
"The three of us and our teams have been working hard for months to reach a framework agreement, which is now on the table and all that is missing is finalising the implementation details," he added.
He continued: "This agreement is based on the principles put forward by President Biden on May 31, 2024, which were supported by Security Council Resolution 2735."
The statement stressed that: "No more time should be wasted, and there should be no excuses by any party for further delay. It is time to release the hostages, begin the ceasefire and implement this agreement."
The statement said: "We, as mediators, are ready - if necessary - to put forward a final proposal to settle the remaining issues related to implementation in a manner that meets the expectations of all parties."
He continued: "We have called on the two sides to resume urgent talks on Thursday, August 15, in (Doha or Cairo) to close all remaining gaps and start implementing the agreement without any delay."
The statement was concluded with the signatures of the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and US President Joe Biden.
