A message from underground!
Hamas’s selection of Yahya Sinwar as the movement’s leader, succeeding the late national leader Ismail Haniyeh, was not merely an urgent protocol measure dictated by necessity to fill the gaps created by assassinations and limit the ability to make decisions. Rather, it is a message from underground, directed to those drowning in its sands and committing crimes of genocide against their perpetrators, who have been suffering from death, hunger and disease for ten months, while the criminal killers continue their crimes, killing, wounding and capturing, demolishing, destroying, burning and sweeping away all aspects of life in the Gaza Strip, which is being extended under the bombardment of aircraft and the tracks of tanks.
Observers do not lack the insight to grasp the meanings and implications of the urgent message, and the repercussions it will leave, at a time when the entire region is heading towards difficult choices, in which the arc of fire is expanding, making Netanyahu’s adventures a disaster for him, and his assassination of the movement’s leader a counter-strike that will foil his plans, and push him to review his calculations and the calculations of those who provide him with support, harden his head, and feed his desire for revenge, and the lust for murder that possesses him, with the inflation of the ego drowned in fantasy and false biblical myths.
What Hamas’ statement did not mention is more important than what it did mention. Whoever decides to assassinate moderation in the movement deserves to negotiate with Sinwar.
