Washington: Escalating tension with Israel is not in Tehran's interest
The US State Department said that Washington sent a message to Iran stating that "escalating tensions with Israel would not be in Tehran's interest."
US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller explained that the message was sent to Iran through parties that communicate with it within the framework of diplomatic communications.
Miller added, in his daily press conference yesterday, Monday, that the United States stated in its message that it would protect Israel.
He considered the expansion of the conflict in the Middle East to be "inevitable", while indicating at the same time that the United States "will continue to work to prevent this from happening."
Miller stressed that escalating tensions would not serve anyone's interests in the region.
The region is witnessing unprecedented tension following the assassination of the head of the political bureau of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran, and the most prominent military leader in Hezbollah, Fouad Shukr, in late July.
