Israeli occupation continues to detain 86 Palestinian female prisoners in Al-Damon prison
The Commission of Prisoners' Affairs and Liberated Prisoners said that the Israeli occupation authorities are still detaining 86 female prisoners, all of them in Damon Prison, and only two female prisoners in the Maskoubiyeh Interrogation Center.
The Commission’s lawyer was able to visit the prison and meet with the two prisoners, Hadeel Shatara (32 years old) from the town of Al-Mazra’a Al-Sharqiya, east of Ramallah Governorate, who has been detained for two months and has been issued with an administrative detention order for 6 months, and Salwa Hamdan (45 years old), from Al-Dheisheh Camp in Bethlehem Governorate, who has been detained for 4 months and is still being held.
The Commission explained that the general situation of female prisoners is still difficult and complex, and there are daily, intentional and deliberate practices aimed at harming them and affecting their psychology, without taking into account any of their privacy.
It explained that the past few days have witnessed a problem with the breathing process of the female prisoners, due to the prison administration spraying their rooms with insecticides, which led to the emission of bad odors that greatly affected their health, as they spend most of their time inside the rooms and do not go out for a break except for one hour only.
The Commission confirmed that the living and health conditions in Al-Damon Prison are still the same, with punishments, deprivation, and indifference to the demands of female prisoners, as well as a shortage of clothing, food, and water, high temperatures and humidity, and other daily life needs, all of which are absent, and are used as a means of torture and deprivation.
