UNRWA: Gaza children live in unspeakable horrors
The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, said today, Thursday, that “the children of the Gaza Strip are living through indescribable trauma and horrors, after 300 days of war, displacement, loss and pain.”
“Today we launched the Back to Learning programme through activities that provide Gaza’s children with a refuge from the horrors they continue to experience,” Lazzarini added in a statement published on the X platform.
Describing the situation of Gaza's children, the UNRWA Commissioner-General said, "They have seen what no child should see, and they deserve safety."
Through sports, arts, drama, games and creating a space to meet friends and make new ones, “UNRWA teachers provide Gaza’s children with a ray of light in the darkness,” Lazzarini said.
Lazzarini described UNRWA's move to launch the Back to Learning programme in Gaza as "a small contribution to help children reconnect with their stolen childhood."
Lazzarini also renewed the call for an immediate ceasefire for the sake of the children of Gaza in particular, and all children in the region in general.
