The Syndicate of Journalists informs the Director of UN Office about the crimes of Israel against journalists in Gaza

Today, Thursday, the Deputy Head of the Journalists Syndicate, Tahseen Al-Astal, informed the Director of the United Nations Human Rights Office in Gaza, Yu Kaniso, about the crimes and violations committed by the Israeli occupation against journalists, the latest of which was the killing of fellow journalists Ismail Al-Ghoul and Rami Al-Rifi by bombing their vehicle in Al-Shati Camp in Gaza City.

This came during her visit to the Solidarity Media Center affiliated with the Journalists Syndicate in the Al-Mawasi area in Khan Yunis city, south of the Gaza Strip, in the presence of the Syndicate’s Secretary, Ahed Farwana, member of the General Secretariat, Ala Kassab, and the Syndicate’s Administrative Council Secretary, Baidaa Muammar.

At the beginning of the visit, Kaniso was briefed on the Solidarity Media Center and what it provides to journalists in order to continue their work after the destruction of all journalistic institutions in the Gaza Strip, the power outage, and the weakness of the Internet and communications.

The meeting discussed the multiple violations that journalists in the Gaza Strip are exposed to as a result of the Israeli aggression, which led to the martyrdom of more than 157 journalists, both male and female, and media workers, the injury and arrest of dozens of journalists, the disappearance of a number of them, and the destruction of the headquarters of more than a hundred press institutions, which forced journalists to work under extremely dangerous and difficult conditions.

During the meeting, the United Nations and international institutions were called for effective intervention to stop these crimes against journalists, provide them with protection, and provide them with the necessities of life and food.

Kaniso expressed her appreciation for the work done by journalists in the Gaza Strip, and their ability to work and challenge all circumstances and obstacles in order to deliver their media message.

She promised that she would do her utmost to convey the voice of journalists to all institutions to provide suitable conditions for their work, and to work with supporting institutions to provide them with the tools they need for professional safety and living needs.

Al-Astal handed Kaniso a report on the total number of attacks on journalists from last October until the end of last July.
