USAID Supports Largest Palestinian Animal Feed Factory in the West Bank
Today, USAID Mission Director for the West Bank and Gaza, Amy Tohill-Stoll, visited Izdihar to sign an agreement between USAID’s Building Regional Economic Bridges (BREB) activity and Izdihar Animal Feed. Support to Izdihar Animal Feed includes financial and technical assistance to enhance operational efficiency at the facility. BREB is a key component of USAID’s Partnership for Peace Fund under the Nita M. Lowey Middle East Partnership for Peace Act (MEPPA). BREB promotes economic cooperation between Palestinian businesses and the private sector in Israel, the broader region, and the United States.
Founded in 2019 by a group of development-driven investors, Izdihar Palestine partners with private sector investors, donors, and financial institutions to strengthen and advance the Palestinian economy. Izdihar Animal Feed Factory is one of its flagship projects, and is the largest concentrated animal feed production facility in the West Bank. This ambitious project aims not only to support and enhance livestock growth, but also to promote economic cooperation and address the trade deficit in the West Bank. In partnership with Izdihar Palestine, USAID is contributing to the exchange of technology and expertise to significantly improve the quality of animal feed products, enhance export contracts between companies, and facilitate financing through the United States International Development Finance Corporation.
With the support of Building Regional Economic Bridges (BREB), Izdihar Palestine Animal Feed is set to produce over 23 feed blends with a production capacity of up to 60 tons per hour. The plant aims to supply up to 60% of the West Bank market and up to 10% of the Israeli market, create over 1,000 direct and indirect jobs, enable livestock growth, and drive long-term economic growth. Under the agreement, BREB will facilitate GMP certification as well as membership in an international feed regulatory body, enabling the products to be sold in Israeli, Saudi, and other regional markets.
“USAID has been an invaluable partner to us,” said Basil Al-Qadi, CEO of Izdihar Palestine. “Their support in securing funding, building partnerships, and ensuring compliance with international standards has been critical. With USAID’s help, we are prepared to meet market needs, drive economic growth in the West Bank, and contribute to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.”
Mission Director Amy Tohill-Stoll highlighted USAID’s steadfast commitment to regional development, saying, “By supporting transformational projects like this one, we are demonstrating our commitment to economic development, technological innovation, transportation, and regional stability. Our goal is to build bridges between Palestinians and Israelis, as well as regional economic ties that promote sustainable peace.”
USAID is committed to advancing the long-term development goals of Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza while continuing to address ongoing humanitarian needs in Gaza. To learn more about USAID’s work in the West Bank and Gaza, visit https://www.usaid.gov/west-bank-and-gaza.
