A Palestinian suspected of killing an Israeli jailer was arrested in a settlement near Ramallah
The Shin Bet and the Israeli police announced in a joint statement today, Monday, that they arrested, on July 10, a young man, Ibrahim Mansour, in his twenties and a resident of the village of Biddu, northwest of Jerusalem, on suspicion that he had killed a prisoner in the Israeli Prison Service.
On July 8, jailer Yohay Avni was found dead after being stabbed in his home in the Givon settlement near Ramallah, after being set on fire.
A military court extended Mansour's detention until July 29, while the Shin Bet and the central police unit in Jerusalem are still investigating.
The statement claimed that after an initial operation to collect evidence at the scene, suspicion of murder was raised, after which a joint investigation team was formed for the Central Unit of the Jerusalem District Police and the Shin Bet, “and after a quick investigation, evidence of the murder was collected and the identity of the murder suspect was discovered.”
Mansour is a prisoner released from administrative detention, and was released last April. According to the Ynet website, he was not detained in Ofer Prison, where jailer Avni worked.
